“Those who flow as life flows, know they need no other force” ~ Lao Tzu
Oriental Yoga is a fusion of traditional Indian Hatha yoga with Chinese medicine and Taoist cosmology. The aim of applying this knowledge is, like all yoga’s and spiritual paths, is to help the practitioner align with the natural cosmic forces of the universe. When one aligns with these natural forces the path becomes more harmonious, more easeful and more joyful, for these are the innate qualities of the universal way.
This book explores winter in the 5 element system and provides insight into the associated organs and meridians. Also detailed are a variety of practices and yoga asanas to help the practitioner align with the winter energy. This book is not just about explaining a variety of yoga postures, it explores a complete system of yoga.
In this book you will learn
- About the 5 elements and how to adjust to them to bring more balance to ones life
- The meridians of the Kidneys and Bladder
- Signs and symptoms of the Kidneys and Bladder in balance
- Signs and symptoms of the Kidneys and Large Bladder out of balance
- Practical tips to correct any imbalances
- Food and oriental diet therapy
- Muscles associated with the Kidneys and Bladder
- Yoga postures that focus on the Kidneys and Bladder
- Meditation practices
Winter Oriental Yoga Taoist and Hatha Yoga for the Seasons edition by Michael Hetherington Religion Spirituality eBooks
Before reading this book, I confess that I thought yoga was mostly physical moves. I had really never learned anything about it other than ways to move my body in to positions that seemed utterly impossible. I was vaguely aware that an inner peace was needed in order for the movements to be most effective. However, having read this book, I have a deeper understanding and respect for the practice of yoga. This book focuses on the season of Winter and Winter is associated with water in the theory of Oriental & Traditional Chinese Medicine. As much as I've never been a fan of winter, although I love the beauty, I have always found water to be a conduit to my more creative side. Once I realized that this book focused on the Water element, I was excited to have this book introduced to me.
The author covers the muscle groups and in-depth, specific information about the body as it pertains to the season and it's relative organs; in this case winter and the bladder & kidneys. I found the exercises, food/diet, herbs and meditation section to be of great interest. It is all so much to take in, but I think what is most important is actually not stressing over it all and simply learning how to relax and allow energy to flow in the way it is intended.
I am sure to take a look at the other seasons as the author states one will be produced for each of the 5 seasons. I am just very pleased that the one that I first came across was the Winter book.

Winter Oriental Yoga Taoist and Hatha Yoga for the Seasons edition by Michael Hetherington Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I am really interested in Taoism, and downloaded this in my kindle to see how Taoism is related with yoga. Apart from connecting with Taoism, I was really happy to learn how the secrets related to physical and mental healthiness. Normally Traditional Chinese Medicine looks to be following a different approach compared to Western Medicine practices, which is going in-depth analysis on diets, meditation, and movements like yoga. This little kindle version does explain it fantastic, specifying the treatments to improve your hygiene. Highly Recommended!
